Back in the day, let's say before about 1750, all papers were made by hand and were laid. They didn't even call them laid back them it was just paper. You see the paper making moulds (think fly-wire screen) were made in an incredibly time consuming fashion by laying a series of wires on top of a wooden frame. By hand. This special paper was made for the famous Italian printmaker Giorgio Upiglio. His printmaking studio called "Il Torchio", or simply, "The Press" was based in Milan. Upiglio worked with many famous artists and book printers. His output was prolific. This beautiful paper is 200 gsm, 100% cotton, sheet size is 65 x 90 cm short grain. Colour is ivory/off white, the surface is smooth, it appears to have a small amount of surface sizing. It was designed to Upiglio's specifications for intaglio printmaking. The future for the Magnani Paper brand in Australia Key points: Magnani Papers Australia (MPA), that's me, is still trading. MPA's supplier, Magnani SRL has been placed in the hand of liquidators. Manufacturing of Magnani fine art and book papers has been taken over by Gruppo Cordenons. Timelines uncertain but manufacturing has resumed and quality is being assessed. Cordenons is exhibiting a strong commitment to the Magnani brand. We have limited stocks available on as strictly first in best dressed basis.
